What is Glutathione?
It is an important chemical that acts as a powerful antioxidant to preserve and protect the brain and other body tissues by protecting them from the damage of free radicals. It directly quenches reactive hydroxyl free radicals, other oxygen-centered free radicals, and radical centers on DNA and other biomolecules. It also acts to recycle vitamin C & E which also reduce free radicals. Glutathione is an antioxidant found in every cell in your body. It is extremely important in all detoxification pathways. Glutathione scavenges free radicals, detoxifies poisons and heavy metals, helps deliver amino acids into the cells, helps in bile production and much, much more. Above all glutathione is extremely important in maintaining a healthy immune system. If our bodies cannot keep up with the demand for glutathione due to either increased toxic load from infections or poisons, we can end up with a severely compromised immune system.
How is Glutathione given?
It is given intravenously in the arm by IV push over 10 to 15 minutes usually two to three times a week in a physician’s office.
